AOTD: Chase & Status - More Than Alot

Since hearing Rihanna's new album 'Rated R' on which Chase & Status are credited with the production of 3 tracks, I've really got back into their music. With that in mind I thought they'd be an ideal choice for Todays Album of the Day.

Last year they released their debut LP 'More Than Alot' which received rave (no pun intended) reviews and has since propelled them into mainstream fame. A year on they have worked with a whole host of big name artists such as the previously mentioned Rihanna, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and Nneka to name a few.

The album is recognised as successfully combining many diverse styles, with collaborations from UK Garage and Grime MC's Kano and Plan B being the most notable of this. Chase & Status do however maintain their Drum & Bass roots with the two tracks 'Eastern Jam' and 'Running'.

Biography:

James Waldron, born August 18th, 1994, in Stonybrook, New York, knew nothing would come easy in life without hard work & dedication... And that's just common sense. Putting his heart, mind, and soul into his music has made him into what people love today.

His heavy-hitting punchlines, rapid delivery, tons of creativity and originality is what keeps his fans supportive of him and always wanting to hear more. Rap artist J The Kidd always surrounded himself with music, and soon enough he was eager to get up at start writing his own at a very young age.

It wasn't long at all before he started quickly filling up notebooks and creating tons of his own material. It was an on-and-off hobby that was picked up and left off over time. He looked at it as something fun to do, but it was something he loved to do.

After his move to Las Vegas, Nevada, in the middle of 2004, at just age 10 he started to put his rhymes together with any beats he could possibly find. It didn't take long before he started to create his very own original songs. He started doing his own recordings at just age 11. Soon after another move in 2007, he picked up the art of writing again in the early Summer due to boredom. After showing off his lyrical abilities to his friends and knowing how much he loved to do it, he realized it wasn't just something he wanted to do for fun anymore: it was something he wanted to take off with.

Working countless hours every night, making sure everything is perfect, J The Kidd lives in his studio and revolves his life around what he does. And just like he says in his music - he is just getting started.

I've known these guys since they started out over 3 years ago and have watched them grow into a beautiful Metal flower. Earlier this year they put out their second EP 'Upon Thrones Of Gold' and followed with a mini tour of the UK.

Biography:

JC Poppe is an up and coming Hip-Hop artist who hails from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Poppe's influences include the likes of KRS-One, Chuck D, Black Thought and GZA. He has found the influence from these artists has helped him carve his own style in which he combines his flawless flow with funky hip-hop beats.

His style is diverse, he doesn't abide by pop industry standards but still remains relevant to both the pop and underground scenes.

In 2008 he was a finalist on 103.7 Kiss FM's (Milwaukee) Idol contest and a year later he won the 'Are You Feeling This?' contest on 88.9 Radio Milwaukee.

He has also worked with national artists such as - Guilty Simpson, Kidz In The Hall and 88 Keys.

I am lucky enough to have 2 tracks off Poppe's latest album 'Sleep Therapy' both of which I have uploaded at the bottom of this post.

The first track 'Saving Sound', is a deep lyrical track in which Poppe raps 'That's why I took up the pen and put down the blooded knife' and gives insight in how he got into rap.

The second track 'Fonky Stuff' is, as expected a lot funkier and features fellow rapper Raze.

Big Benz first surfaced in the rap game at the age of sixteen. He crossed paths with various talented people, eventually forming the heart and soul of the Street Hip-Hop movement, F.S.M (Fire Spittin Militia).

His sharp and logical lyrics have been picked apart and used in poems as well as other artist songs. His laid back persona has been mimicked in many Urban Fiction Stories. With no signs of slowing down Big Benz is on his way to being not just a Hood Legend but one of the Greatest MC’s of All Time.

AOTD: The Cool Kids - The Bake Sale

In 2007 everyone was talking about The Cool Kids. Hailing from middle America the duo comprised of Antoine 'Mikey Rocks' Reed and Evan 'Chuck Inglish' Ingersoll who were coined by many as the 'Next Big Thing'. With many people likening them to The Beastie Boys.

Because of this the duos popularity rose quickly, but they failed to establish themselves with a hit single.

During 2008 they released two EP's - 'The Bake Sale' and 'Totally Flossed Out' the following upload appears on the former. Black Mags is typical of both their style and personality, with lazy lyrics almost spoken over some real hard hitting drums. Which makes for some very good music.
