Renegade - Interview

How That Sound recently linked up with the 15 year old English MC Renegade for an interview in which we ended up discussing everything from the origin of his name to how he hooked up with Double S for his latest single.

Read the Interview in it's entirety after the jump.

HTS: Hey, firstly thanks for joining us! Let's get the ball rolling with a bit of an introduction - firstly tell everyone a little about yourself.

Renegade: Well, I'm only 15 years old and currently I'm working on my GCSE's as well as doing music. I'm the youngest MC in the industry at the moment and I have a single that's been out for quite a while now featuring Double S.

I'm also taking part in two different movies one which should be out next year and a blockbuster in 2011.I'm currently doing shows all over the country as well and working as many days possible after school and weekend on my mix CD which I plan on releasing next year.

HTS: Sounds like you're really working hard! One thing that stood out there was you linking with Double S. How did that come about?

Renegade: How I linked up with Double ermmm well I was with my boy Rampage at his studio and he was just like I'm linking double wanna come? And I was like sure why not.

We went to meet Double and we became friends and me and KR Saviour were working on this single Unlimited Grinding and I thought 'Boom' I should get Double onit, that got settled and we did the tune. I ain't spoken to him in ages though that guy disappeared on me minor though I still support him shout outs to Rampage as well his compilation CD Controlling The Booth Vol.2 is out early 2010 it's gonna be better then the previous one which was dangerous.

HTS: A minute ago you touched on being in two films? That's crazy! Tell us a little more about that situation.

Renegade: The movie which should be out next year the name hasn't fully been confirmed yet but I think it's going to be called Two Instincts. But, if the name is changed don't blame it on me blame it on the directors! The other one which should be out in 2011 is called Choices that's gonna be a big one be sure to watch that in the cinema's.

HTS: Alright! I'll be keeping an eye out for that one. What else you got going on? Any mix tapes in the pipeline, you touring doin gigs?

Renegade: Yeah I'm currently working on a CD Reaching The Impossible it represents me as a person I believe absolutely nothing is impossible, anything can happen if you set your mind to it, you can do it. Like someone could say you cant do that that's impossible! I would say I don't care you can reach it if you try your hardest you can get that even if its impossible.

I've also been doin shows all over the country - Birminghamd, Hastings and North West London. And I'm performing on December the 12th in Hackney at Hackney's Empire and December 19th at Harrows Kodak Centre Funky vs Bashement. There's also another one in Wolverhampton but the date for that one hasn't been fully confirmed yet.

HTS: You're really grindin trying to make it happen! Much respect. Goin' back to your CD you got coming out next year, do you have any features lined up?

Renegade: I'm not gonna speak too much on features because people can let you down sometimes anything can happen but you should be expecting some Realist, Wizzy Wow, Double S, Kay Mizan, Starz, Abel Miller we'll see as it progresses.

HTS: If even half of them come through for you're project it's goin to sound dope. Is there any tracks you're jumping on to do a feature to look out for?

Renegade: Boy, singles and that. I don't wanna bate out too much but what I am saying is me and Sangeet are working on a couple of singles. Also me and Abel Miller.. in fact I wasn't even meant to say this out but me and Abel Miller are working on a Secret E.P you'll hear more of that when it comes out.

One single I am definitely releasing as a video is a tune called 'Good Girl' the tunes absolutely ridiculous I'm just tryna find another artist to put on the tune that i reckon will destroy it. Finally, also catch me on Controlling The Booth Vol. 2 a compilation CD being put together by Rampage and Boom Bang nuff said just keep your eyes open progress will say alot.

HTS: While we're on the subject of features.. If you could work with ANY artist/group who would you choose?

Renegade: Renegade ft. Michael Jackson, N-Dubz, Biggie (Produced by Dark child)

Yeah that would definitely do me for a good number 1. Michael Jackson because he has a powerful voice, his voice is crazy and its unique also N-Dubz because of their commercial sound and dangerous concepts for songs not forgetting Biggie because of that brothers words of wisdom and his flow is far too much finally produced by Dark Child because he just has the best beats in the game hes known for producing bare smash hits.

HTS: You picked out some real legends there. The music industry would be in such a better state if artists like Michael Jackson and B.I.G were still alive.. R.I.P

Moving on, who would you say has influenced you the most in your music career?

Renegade: Influencing my music.. I would have to say no arguments Michael Jackson greatest that ever existed his sound is too much and Biggie jheeze that brother talks the realist ish in his lyrics I've possibly ever heard and if it wasn't for So Solid Crew I would have never picked up a microphone and realised what I can do. I also gotta say Sir Apollo because if it went for him I wouldn't even be here I would probably still be on the streets tryna make some money so I gotta say he influenced me highly I'm really glad he found my potential and is helping me use it every minute and everyday.

HTS: Looking at the current state of the music industry, whose (if any) music are you feeling at the moment?

Renegade: Artist's I'm feeling at the minute are Wretch 32, Scorcher the whole of the Movement, Drake, Loick Essien, Styles P, The Game and Realist when you hear the tune we got wrapped for my CD it's something else.

2010 Realist is one to look out for I'm not gonna bate out his plans I'll let him do the talking but hes a beast and songs I got on repeat are Fabolous - So Into You best tune evverrrrr. Created and Transformers by Loick Essien I'm obsessed with that tune.

HTS: And now for the tpyical interviewer/artist question - How did choose/get your mc name?

Renegade: Believe it or not my tag used to be lil weezy when I was like 10. I used to be a little fat kid and I have asthma so I used to weeze quite alot so the olders called me weezy. I used to hate it so much until a situation happened, I delt with it myself and the olders were like reh he's going on like a right little Renegade and I liked it and it grew onto me everyone started calling me that and boom, bang turned it into my music name.

HTS: And finally, how can people find out more about you?

Renegade: At the moment I've got all my links on hold until U release the CD as I wanna create a bang in the scene so Myspace and that is down for now but for more info on what I'm working on and details about what's going on or anything else follow me on Twitter: @RenegadeArtist and any questions add me on Facebook Mateo Romeo.
