Review:
Adam Freeland is a well respected DJ and Producer who after spending much of his early career in Brighton, England now resides in Los Angeles, California.
Adam released his first album 'Coastal Breaks - Vol 1' in 1996, and within a year was working alongside Kevin Beber making music for their Nu Skool Breaks act Tsunami One.
This collaboration generated a big following within the breaks scene and after the success of their 1999 classic 'Hip-Hop Phenomenon' the group went from strength to strength. During this time Adam also released three albums under his own name - Tectonics, On Tour and Now and Them.
After his successes in the music industry Adam turned his attention to the record label Marine Parade (of which he is now the owner / creative director) which deals primarily with Break Beat and House producers. This label has released material by a host of artists including the likes of Evil Nine, ILS, Alex Metric and Jape some of which appear of Adam’s latest offering Cope Remixed.
In June of 2009 Adam released his second studio album 'Cope', which was well recieved by critics. Only a few months on from the release Adam is releasing a double disc album titled 'Cope™ Remixed'. This new album will feature 24 new remixes from some of the biggest names in the dance scene.
Adam has managed to gather a very high calibre of producers for 'Cope™ Remixed' including the likes of Emalkay, Nosaj Thing, PANTyRAiD, AC Slayer and many more. The previously mentioned Emalkay provides one of the stand out tracks of the album with his Remix of 'Rock On'.
Evil Nine and Alex Metric (from Adam's Marine Parade record label) both added their style to the track 'Under Control' and they didn’t disappoint. Other notable mentions need to go to Joker whose synth ridden take on Do You and TC’s Drum and Bass influenced mix of Under Control are additional highlights to this already strong compilation.
Overall, there is still a heavy bias to purely instrumental tracks but for the most part these work well. All in all the album is a great success and Adam’s choice of producers is flawless as each brings their own flavour to the table. This could have resulted in a disjointed sound, but thankfully this has not happened here.
